Being an Indian Father in America
All those married friends know, it is not easy being a husband. That too being a husband and a father of two girls is certainly not easy. Even more challenging is the fact that you grow up in rural India and bring up two girls in the USA. We keep hearing in news channels the famous quotes by US politicians... "These are not ordinary times (for the economy)". The challenges for the economy comes and goes but for an Indian father of two American girls "no time is ordinary time".
You want your girls to grow up like your wife did. The girls want to grow up like their classmates do. With the straightforward conflict of interest, you are left thinking if you made the right decision to come to USA. You talk to a friend in India, and he tells you that the "times are not ordinary (for father of girls)" in India too. Now you are at least happy that you are earning more here. But when your parents call, your daughters don't utter a word in Tamil. You are confused again!!
Well this is just only one of those several "non-ordinary circumstances". With these known non-ordinary circumstances, I call myself a proud father of my two beautiful daughters, determined to make these not-so-ordinary times, the best times possible.
